This is a small small small portion of my book i wrote and typed called Friends Forever.
I am currently writing another "book" called A Little Ray of Hope or ALROH (I pronounce it Al-row) just to shorten it up.
Ok, so Emma is the main character and she is 16 in this part and she has a 23 year old brother, Nick who is home for the weekend. Nick's horse is Justice and Emma's horse is Emotion. This is during a very big drought...:
The next day, Saturday, Nick and Emma went for a ride. Nick was on Justice, Emma on Emotion.
Dark clouds had been forming over the tree.
“We may finally get rain!” Nick exclaimed.
“Yes, I know. I can’t wait!” Emma agreed.
Not long after the words had passed by Emma’s lips, the storm broke overhead and the horses got a bit skittish.
Lightning cracked through the sky, no rain yet. But thunder rumbled on every side of Emma and the wind picked up.
Emotion skittered out of the way of a flying branch.
About 30 seconds later, Emma smelled something.
It was a musky scent. The horses didn’t like it at all and suddenly, Nick was gone. He had raced ahead, unable to contain Justice’s skittish nature any longer.
Now she could hear his voice but just barely.
She raced in the direction he had gone, passing the old stone shed that had been there since forever it seemed. It had been there before Emma’s family had been.
Emotion skidded to a stop and flung her head to the upwards and let out a scream to the dark gray clouds.
Emma desperately tried to sooth her but got interrupted by Nick’s louder shouting because he was getting closer.
Then she managed to figure out what he was saying right before he appeared, galloping wildly towards her and trying to warn her.
But it didn’t matter because the terrible force of nature was on Justice’s tail.
One word.
One syllable.
One horrible act of nature.
Fire.
